Rejoicing in the Torah

Simchat Torah means “Rejoicing in the Torah.” Following Shemini Atzeret, we celebrate finishing the yearly reading of the Torah and immediately beginning again: from the final words of Deuteronomy back to the opening of Genesis. The Word of Adonai is a gift we return to year after year.

Gratitude, joy, and a fresh beginning

This holy day invites us to focus on gratitude for the Torah, joy in studying and living its teachings, and the promise of a fresh beginning. Communities traditionally lift and dance with the Torah scrolls, sharing that joy across generations.

As we begin the reading cycle again, may we approach Hashem's Word with renewed attention and grateful hearts, carrying the joy of this celebration into our everyday lives.
